The Marlow Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1979, initially answering around 80 calls per year with a 500-gallon, 500 GPM 1953 Howe pumper, purchased with a loan co-signed by the founding members.

Over the past four decades, we've been fortunate to receive generous support from Anderson County through volunteers, cash donations, merchant contributions, and Federal and State grants. This support has enabled us to respond to emergency calls with improved equipment and greater efficiency.

Currently, our volunteers operate from two stations:

Station 1: 1019 Oliver Springs Hwy
Station 2: 1165 Dutch Valley Rd

We serve an area of 65 square miles, including numerous residents and structures. Our updated fleet of trucks includes:

Our pumper/tanker trucks are equipped with portable dump tanks to support water shuttle/drafting operations, as hydrants are limited in the rural areas of our county. Through continuous equipment upgrades and bi-monthly training meetings, we have earned a Class 5/10 rating from the Insurance Services Office. This rating reflects our capabilities, with Class 5 applying to properties within five road miles of either station and Class 10 to those beyond five miles. This rating helps homeowners, churches, and businesses in our service area save significantly on their annual property insurance premiums.

We have mutual aid agreements with local emergency organizations and respond to calls from emergency agencies within the county and surrounding volunteer fire departments. With mutual aid responses and a growing population in Anderson County, we now handle over 800 emergency calls annually.

The Marlow Volunteer Fire Department is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization run entirely by volunteer members. None of our members receive any direct or indirect compensation for their services. Currently, we have around 25 dedicated men and women who contribute their time and expertise to firefighting, training, fundraising, maintenance, and administrative tasks.

New members are always welcome and needed to volunteer in any or all of these areas.
